Cobden Primary School’s Lenny Murfett had been growing his mullet for close to three years before agreeing to shave it off as a fundraiser for the Big Freeze initiative.

Held at the school last Tuesday, Lenny had been asked to consider shaving his mullet if the school managed to sell all of their Big Freeze beanies.

Thinking they would not be able to reach the target he agreed, but it was not long before he had to make the commitment to a haircut.

Lenny’s mother, Natara Murfett, said the fundraiser came together in a matter of days.

“He’s raised at least $2010,” she said.

“I put up a photo with him and his mullet on Facebook and people just donated.

“I thought he’d get $300-$400. I couldn’t believe how well it went.”

Mrs Murfett said she was so proud of Lenny and his efforts.

“Thank you to everyone who donated,” she said.

Lenny, who had been growing his mullet for close to three years, said he was proud of himself.

Local hairdresser Ellen Smith donated her time to shave Lenny’s mullet before the entire school in the lead up to the Big Freeze activities.

Lenny’s shave helped raise more than $2000.
