GREAT Ocean Road Tourist Park in Peterborough was host to 17 members, partners and friends of the Simpson Lions Club recently.

Each year the club president organises a retreat at their place of choice.

The weekend gives us all a chance to re-boot after a year of hard work raising money to make our little community a nice place to live and enjoy the recreational support we try to incorporate into the township, whilst also supporting incentives nationally and internationally.

This year club president John Morris took members on a tour of The Grotto, London Bridge and, if we hadn’t of missed the turn off, The Crown of Thorns.

A trip to Port Campbell for a cuppa, a meal at the Schomberg Inn and plenty of 5 o’clock snacks and drinks kept us fed and happy.

Saturday night we celebrated Lion Alf’s 80th birthday with a special visitation from the Duke and Duchess of Vandelbrook.

Also on Saturday night we were extremely pleased to listen to a presentation from lion Russ who entertained us with stories of his life leading up to his time in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Lots of anecdotes were told about the superstars he worked with over the years. Highlights of his career were being on stage with Sammy Davis Jr and the Aussie legend John Farnham.
