The garden, located near the Cemetery Information Centre, has been undergoing a remodel over the past few months.

Camperdown cemetery trust secretary Colin Hayman said the lions club garden had been struggling with weed overgrowth over a number of years.

“We’ve tried a number of solutions, but nothing worked,” he said.

“In the end, the lions club and the cemetery trust agreed to take it out and develop a smaller garden.

“We’re going to put some blue plants around the outside because the lions club colour is blue.

“The rest will become lawn.”

Works on the new lions club garden will include the installation of stones to hold plaques, as well as a bluestone border.

Mr Hayman said the new lions club garden was a joint project between the lions club of Camperdown and the Camperdown cemetery trust.

“The garden had timber edging, and the trust is using that timber for another project at the cemetery,” he said.

“The cemetery trust has found the bluestone, and the lions club are contributing $500 towards the development of the new garden.

“We just sprayed the weeds around here, and we did some more soil and put some stones down this morning (Monday).

“We’re going to let that sit for a while to make sure there’s no more weeds or grass to come through. The ladies on the trust will put the plants in.”

The project is expected to be completed within the coming months.
