CORANGAMITE Lions division 2 side went down by a goal against Portland Panthers in extra time of last weekend’s grand final match.
The Corangamite Lions hosted Sunday’s grand final round of South West Victoria Football Association (SWVFA) at Camperdown’s Leura Oval.
According to division two coach and club president Jamie Norton the side played some great passages to finish 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes but lost by a goal in extra time.
“It was a great game and everyone really played well and carried out their roles,” Norton said.
“Unfortunately we did have some short lapses when Portland applied pressure and we just got a bit out of shape.
“But full credit to our players; we had a new-look side at the start of the season and they really gelled well.”
Norton made mention of the efforts of centre-back Lewis Cannon and wings Guy Faber and Sean Cabugao.
“Lewis has been in and out due to injuries this season and the grand final was his first game back in two or three weeks,” Norton said.
“He really worked hard to hold off Portland’s attackers and was consistent all game – as were Guy and Sean who rotated through the wings and drove well.”
Cabugao and Emmanual Akang both scored goals for the Lions
