This Saturday will see the Lions chasing Mortlake’s first innings total of 10/147 in the Warrnambool District League’s division two competition.

The Lions won the toss last weekend and sent the Cats into bat.

Opener Neil Kelly got the home side off to a great start, smashing 72 runs from 108 balls in an innings that included 11 boundaries.

He proved the shining light for the side, with team-mates Jason Lehman (18) and youngster Oscar Ritchie (14) the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Currently sitting second on the ladder, the Lions are in good form this season and bowled out the Cats in the 61st over last Saturday.

After 16 overs on the weekend, they will resume on Saturday at 2/45 after losing openers Liam Gerry for 15 and David Conheady for 26; with both wickets going to Mortlake bowler Neil Kelly.

Noorat Terang’s Tyler Smith and Sam Munro will take their place at the crease this weekend in the hope of steering the Lions to a good score for what is the second last round of the home and away season.

The Cats now sit eighth on the ladder and while finals is out of reach, they too will be hoping to add to their victory tally before the season end.
