Corangamite Lions Football Club women’s team have welcomed a state government grant to help put the focus on women in sport.

Last week, the club received a $4000 grant to host events to attract more women players to try out and play soccer.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney congratulated the club for being successful in receiving funds under the 2023/24 Change Our Game Community Activation Grants Program.

She said there were 119 successful recipients across the state.

“I’m really pleased to announce this funding…it’s not only an investment in their future, it’s a great example of how the Victorian Government is making sport and recreation more accessible, welcoming and inclusive for all Victorians,” Tierney said.

“Western Victoria loves its sports, and it’s great to see local clubs taking up this opportunity to get more women and girls involved.

“I strongly encourage other clubs in Western Victoria to follow in their footsteps and take advantage of all the new possibilities this funding boost can deliver.”

The program offers grants of up to $10,000 to eligible organisations to provide more opportunities for women and girls to take part in community sport.

Since the program was established in 2018, 580 grants have been provided to support community sport and recreation organisations to host initiatives ranging from participation days to community forums and educational sessions.
