Lismore tea set to return
DERRINALLUM and Lismore residents will start to smell scones and other goodies in Lismore next Saturday, with the township’s Biggest Morning Tea making a return.
The morning tea will be held at Wooltrack Store at 28 High Street, Lismore on Saturday, May 18 for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lismore’s Biggest Morning Tea has run since 1999, raising $14,595 for Cancer Council.
Organiser Sandy Gibson said she is hoping for people new to the district to come along and donate to the cause.
“There’s a lot of new people in town, and we’d like to welcome them and ask them to come along as well as those who have always supported us,” she said.
“This year it’ll be an inside and outside event. On my verandah, I’ve got a good area where we’re going to put some trestles.
“People are still very wary of COVID-19, and I don’t want people to think ‘I don’t want to go in case I get COVID-19.
“It’s a little bit different.”
The free morning tea will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm, with donation boxes available for those wishing to donate to Cancer Council.
Ms Gibson said the morning tea had always been well supported by the Lismore and Derrinallum communities.
“I’ve asked people to bring a special cup, it might mean something to them, and they can talk about. There’ll be a little prize for that,” she said.
“There’ll be some competitions and things, and some lovely morning tea.
“Every dollar raised helps support those affected by cancer. For example, $25 helps transport a cancer patient staying at accommodation centres to and from hospitals.
“Any little bit people have got to spare will be wonderful. We’re only a small community, so we’ve always had wonderful support and I thank people for that.”
