Little aths shine

NINETY-one athletes enjoyed a fun night at Camperdown Little Athletics last Friday.

Members begun the night by celebrating the 27 athletes who attended the Western Country Region Championships in Ballarat.

Whether they won a medal or not they all did the club proud and members were thrilled to see the results from the weekend.

The track is starting to look a little dry in the last few weeks but that didn’t stop athletes posting many fantastic personal best efforts from the night.

The highlight of the night was the under seven discuss where over 90 per cent of the athletes threw a personal best.

It is awesome to see all the support from the kids for their fellow athletes and the cheering and high fives were a very big highlight for the discus coach.

In the sprints and throws everyone gave their best and it was a fantastic sight to see older athletes running with the younger ones, to support them over the line in the longer races.

March 1 will see week 15 of the season concluding at the track, after a long season organisers hope to see all athletes attend the night.

March 22 will be presentation night at the track; all families are encouraged to attend for a night of celebration for the season that was, a barbecue, slideshow and both athlete and volunteer awards will be presented.

The club will again present the Henk Gerbus Award for Club Person of the Year, sponsored by past athletes of the club.

It is awesome to be able to recognise not only an important past coach of our club, but also the time and effort put in by volunteer members of our committee.

The club thanks its 1970s crew for still holding Camperdown Little Athletics in the gears and offering an opportunity to celebrate our centre and its supportive families.

The club could not provide the amazing environment that it does without all of the brilliant weekly help given by volunteers, parents and committee.

The AGM will this year be held separate to presentation night, the date will be announced ASAP and we ask that any family members aged 16 plus that are interested in joining the team to speak to Kristy, Kathy or Cindy for more information.
