Derrinallum P-12 College and Camperdown College marked 100 days of schooling for their Prep students with special dress-up days.

At Camperdown College, Prep students and their teachers dressed up as 100-year-olds and were awarded certificates acknowledging their achievement at a special assembly last Friday.

Camperdown College Prep – One teacher Grace Coker said students participated in a variety of 100-themed activities alongside their families.

“After recess, we had some time with their Year Six buddies and their Year 12 buddies as well,” she said.

“All week, building up to the day, they’ve just been really excited and very proud of themselves.

“It’s very exciting for them, and it’s been a wonderful learning journey for them, so to reach this milestone is very exciting.

“We’re very proud of them, Kim Robinson and I.”

“We’ve gone with the kids dressing up as what they want to be when they grow up, which has been really popular because the boys love getting into the footy, which has been good,” she said.

“Us teachers dressed up as students this year for something different, it’s been really good.

“It’s a great day because it celebrates their 100 days - a big achievement for them.

“We’ve been having a countdown for the whole year, so we’ve finally been able to tick off the last day which they were really excited about.”

Students spent the day playing 100-themed games, writing a book review and doing woodwork and art.

Ms O’Brien said the class also enjoyed a class party.

“I think it’s fun – we’re trying to celebrate it and make it a bigger deal, which is good, she said.

“Most of them have dressed up in cool outfits.

“I think it’s good that the teachers are getting involved and dressing up as well because, with a small class, it’s great to get as many people involved as we can.”

Derrinallum P-12 College principal Caitlyn Fitzgerald said the school also held a whole school assembly with families in attendance.

“The Prep-One class got up and performed a little dance that was all about how much they’ve grown and how much they’ve learnt, and that they’re proud of themselves,” she said.

“The Grade Two class actually drew pictures of what they think the Preps will be when they grow up.

“We had a few footballers and a few artists, and some princesses and fairies - most of them were really on the money, which was great.

“Our Grade Six Students actually interviewed the Preps and asked them questions like what they would like to be, what kind of car do they think they will drive when the grow up, and where they will live, which was really lovely.”

Ms Fitzgerald said the assembly had a positive response from students and parents alike.

“It was a really nice, warm assembly, and you could see all the kids beaming with pride and the grown-ups in the back beaming with pride as well,” she said.

“It’s a big achievement for little bodies to have come to 100 days of learning, and it’s really lovely to see how much they grow and develop in those 100 days.

“They’ve turned from little, meek and mild people into big personalities that are very proud of themselves and their learning.

“It’s really lovely to see the skill development and their confidence in their own abilities growing.”
