CAMPERDOWN and Lismore Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) received critical funds to purchase essential lifesaving equipment, as part of the AAMI Equipment Handover program.

AAMI has been VICSES’ Principal Community Partner since 2002, during which time AAMI has contributed more than $9 million with a large portion going towards the purchase of critical emergency response equipment.

This year’s funds have been used to purchase over 3200 pieces of equipment across the state.

For VICSES units across the south-west, this means a share of 550 pieces for rescue kits, worth more than $80,000.

Under the partnership, the Camperdown unit received a work-light kit worth close to $10,000 and the Lismore unit received LED light kits worth almost $5000.

In the last 12 months, VICSES volunteers in the south responded to more than 2800 emergency calls for assistance, ranging from on the ground support during emergencies to road rescue support,

land searches and assisting other emergency service organisations.

Each year, AAMI’s contribution is successfully directed to supporting volunteers at a local level, where it will be of most benefit to them and the community.

AAMI’s continuing support is critical in ensuring volunteers are equipped with the latest training and tools to support local communities.

AAMI also plays a key role in supporting VICSES’ community awareness campaigns, such as 15-To-Float, which is designed to raise awareness of the dangers when driving through floodwater.

VICSES south west regional manager, Nicholas Cowham said VICSES volunteers are trusted by their communities to help in times of need.

“Thanks to AAMI, our volunteers are provided with the best equipment to support the community and save lives,” he said.

AAMI head of motor claims in Victoria Matt Pugliese was pleased with the ongoing relationship between AAMI and VICSES.

“We are proud of our 19-year partnership with the VICSES and hope our contribution of new equipment will help make our communities safer,” he said.

“Over the years, AAMI has supported SES units with over 20,000 pieces of operational equipment including chainsaws, hand power tools, portable lights and helmets to help volunteers across the state carry out rescue operations.

“Most importantly we’ve been able to provide them with up-to-date, specialised equipment which is essential when working in dangerous conditions.”
