Locals busy recycling

CORANGAMITE Shire residents have been strong supporters of Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS).

A TOMRA Cleanaway spokesperson said recyclers across the shire had returned over 2.1 million eligible drink containers across the three refund points in the region since the scheme started on November 1, 2023.

More than $210,000 has flowed back to wallets and purses as well as a variety of community groups.

The spokesperson said a new reverse vending machine was being installed in the shire.

“Located at 245 Manifold Street Camperdown, this new reverse vending machine will provide the local residents a convenient and accessible location to return their eligible drink containers for a 10c refund with Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme,” the spokesperson said.

“This new machine is the fourth refund point to be installed across the Corangamite Shire, joining sites in Terang, Timboon and Cobden, and is expected to be available for use at the end of July.”

The TOMRA Cleanaway spokes-person said the company currently has 177 refund collection points across the CDS Vic West Zone, with 180 refund collection points planned to be installed by August 2024.

“As West Zone operator for CDS Vic, we’re continuously working to provide a convenient and accessible network of refund collection points that allows all members of the community to recycle with ease,” the spokesperson said.

“We encourage customers to download the CDS Vic West Zone app via the App Store and Google Play Store to have all the West Zone information at your fingertips – including checking the live status of your nearest refund point, tracking your returns and checking container eligibility.”
