A KNOCK of 53 from Eddie Lucas led Bookaar on its way to a two wicket win over Noorat last weekend.

Lucas continued his good form with the bat from recent weeks and was well supported at the crease by team-mates Paddy Baker 47, Simon Baker 44 and captain Tim Fitzgerald 33.

The Pelicans finished the day on 8/249 to claim victory over Noorat, 6/248.

Fitzgerald was also best of the bowlers with figures of 4/44 from his 10 overs.

“I was really happy with how we went on Saturday; Eddie is having a great season with the bat and our bowlers also did well,” Fitzgerald said.

“It was a must win for us to hold our top four position. I’m pleased with where we’re sitting going into the break and hopefully we can get a few early wins in the new year.”

The Pelicans hold onto fourth spot with two wins to date.

Reflecting on the season so far, Fitzgerald said he felt they may have been able to clinch a third victory, had the game not been weather-affected.

“Unfortunately we had a rain-delayed game against Cobden which saw the Duckworth Lewis rule introduced and that put us down by six runs,” Fitzgerald said.

“I was pretty confident we could have made the runs that day but that’s how it goes; can’t do much about the weather.

“Our other loss was to Heytesbury.”

Bookaar’s division three side goes into the Christmas break on top of the South West ladder following last weekend’s forfeit win over Simpson.

“Unfortunately our div three blokes didn’t get a game but that’s just how it is at this time of the year with the weather we’ve had,” Fitzgerald said.

“Simpson was short on numbers; about a dozen of them are farmers and with the break in the weather they had to get the tractors out and do hay and sileage.

“That’s just the way it goes. It would have been a good game, first versus second.”
