TALENTED batsman Eddie Lucas contributed a handy 64 runs in Bookaar’s opening round victory over Woorndoo last weekend.
After four wash-out rounds the Pelicans were happy to be back out on the park for the season’s first scheduled match last Saturday.
Team captain Tim Fitzgerald said he was pleased with his side’s performance on Saturday and all were keen to get the first one under their belts.
“It’s certainly been a tough start to the season, having so many early wash-outs, so we were probably abit rusty but we’re fortunate that a friend of mine has a set-up in his shed which allowed us to get some training sessions in,” Fitzgerald said.
“Eddie (Lucas) did a great job opening the batting with a very handy 64 and Sam Allen was not out on 36 in his first game for the club.
“Our bowlers were pretty rusty and we gave away almost 30 extras which isn’t ideal (and I dropped a catch in slips) so we’ve definitely got things to work on.”
Chasing Woorndoo’s 7/148 the Pelicans managed 3/155 with five overs to spare.
“It was good to have Lachie Green back at the club after a few years away; he’s a handy batsman, and Tom Baker played his first division one game and bowled really well,” Fitzgerald said.
The side will face Pomborneit at Frederick Street this Saturday and with possibly three players unavailable, Fitzgerald will be relying on others to fill the void.
“We’re fortunate to have some very good juniors, who also play in the division three side, so they may get the call up,” Fitzgerald said.
“Again the weather isn’t looking too great so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully we can get out on the park again.”
Best of the bowlers for the Pelicans last weekend were Shaun Moloney 3/21 and Hamish Sinnott 1/15.
