We have a winner!: Camperdown Football Netball Club has awarded $3700 to the winner of their Magpie Magic lottery.

A SHOPPER from Cororooke who bought track suit pants in July was not expecting her purchase to result in a $3700 win.

Mardi Hayes won the prize through the Camperdown Football Netball Club’s Magpie Magic lottery, which she was awarded on Wednesday.

The winning ticket was given as part of a promotion done by Laffs, which often supports a local community group.

Camperdown Football Netball Club treasurer Rob Van De Eynde said the club has been running the six-number quick pick ticket format for a while.

“What we’ve got at the moment is quick picks; we used to have them where people used to select their own numbers, but it’s always a bit harder when people don’t do the right things so most people just want a quick pick now,” he said.

“It costs $2 for a ticket and you get two games.

“You’ve got to get the six numbers out of 16; we’ve got 16 balls go in a barrel every Thursday night at 8pm, and they get drawn out and we’ve got scrutineers that check them off.

“Seems that it’s very easy to get five numbers but getting the six numbers is just harder. The last time it went off was August last year, and so we’ve gone for 27 weeks before we’ve had another winner.”

Mr Van De Eynde said the prize jackpots by $100 a week, and the new round will start at $1000.

Ms Hayes said she was “ecstatic” to find out she had won.

“I thought it was a hoax to be quite honest because the gentleman rang me one night, and I didn’t answer the phone because it was tea-time and I was getting my tea and I thought it would be someone trying to sell something,” she said.

“Rob rang the next morning and said it wasn’t a hoax, so I rang him back and he told me that I won money.

“I can’t believe it; I’ve never won anything in my life.”
