THE ever-improving Camperdown Magpies are now sitting third on the Hampden League ladder following last weekend’s 49-point win over Koroit.

THE ever-improving Camperdown Magpies are now sitting third on the Hampden League ladder following last weekend’s 49-point win over Koroit.
Despite a slow start to the season, which saw the Pies defeated by Terang Mortlake and South Warrnambool (who now hold the top two positions) the Magpies have now strung together four victories.
Last Saturday’s clash with the Saints in front of a home crowd saw the Pies take control of the game in the second quarter, turning a 10-point deficit at the end of the first term into a handy 13-point lead going into the main break.
In what was a low scoring third quarter, the Pies added two majors while the visitors were contained to one goal four.
Final scores were Camperdown 13.11.89 to Koroit 7.8.50.
Best for the Magpies were Riley Arnold, Luke O’Neil, William Rowbottom, Hamish Sinnott, Lucas and Cameron Spence.
Sam Gordon booted four majors for the home side and was well supported by Spence with two and one apiece from Dominic Absalom, Charlie Lucas, James O’Neil, Luke O’Neil, Hamish Sinnott, Myles Sinnott and Zach Sinnott.
Camperdown’s reserves currently sit winless on the bottom of the ladder following last Saturday’s 68-point loss at the hands of the fifth-placed Saints.
The Saints managed 13.9.87 for the day while keeping the home side to just 3.1.19.
Tim Fitzgerald scored two goals for the Pies while Clarence Baird added one.
Among the best were Angus Gordon, Hugh Gordon, Nick Castle, Xavier O’Connor and James McVilly.
Earlier in the day, Koroit’s under 18.5s made light work of their match against the Pies, winning 15.14.104 to Camperdown 2.4.16.
Wilba Cheeseman, Luke Kavenagh, Brock Stephens, Tarkyn Love, Ned Molan and Ethan Wyss were among the best for the Pies while Bohdie Gill and Tarkyn Love scored a goal each.
The netball courts gave little joy to the Magpies, with no games won by the home side.
