CAMPERDOWN Magpies will look to break a three-game losing streak when Port Fairy descends on Leura Oval this weekend.

The Magpies began the season with a win over Terang Mortlake in the opening round of the 2022 Hampden Football League.

But Camperdown has since slumped to consecutive losses against South Warrnambool, Cobden and Portland.

Magpies coach Neville Swayn acknowledged the break over the weekend came at a good time for his players.

“We’ll get hopefully three or four players back,” he said.

“We’re looking to have a good response after a disappointing week away against Portland.

“We’re looking for a response from the whole playing group on Saturday.”

The message for the Magpies has been to embrace a short-term memory, according to Swayn, as the club looks to get its season back on track.

“You can’t back off so we’ve worked really hard on a lot of areas over the last few weeks,” he said.

“To the boys credit they’ve trained really well.

“We’ve had a big emphasis on pressure across the ground and a lot of work with our stoppages.

“We’ll be looking for a big improvement on that on Saturday.”

Port Fairy has yet to record a win this season, but Swayn warned against getting complacent against a Seagulls side which is not lacking talent.

“Port Fairy has not had a win yet but they’ve got four or five really good players this year,” Swayn said.

“They’re gradually getting good players so we can’t take them lightly, because if we do they could run away from us if given the chance.

“It could also be wet, which would make it a bit of an interesting game so we expect them to be coming down confident they could get their first win.

“We’ve got to start really well. We have to be right on the money from the start.”

The Camperdown Magpies will host the Port Fairy Seagulls at Leura Oval from 2pm tomorrow, Saturday, March 14.
