Magpies out of finals contention

A “DISAPPOINTING” three quarters of footy proved costly on the scoreboard for Camperdown’s seniors last weekend.

The Magpies proved no match for the in-form Cobden Bombers on Saturday despite a strong opening quarter.

Team coach Neville Swayn said while his side had a strong first term, the following three quarters were “disappointing”.

“We simply didn’t play to our strengths and everything we had worked on didn’t show on the ground,” he said.

“They were just too good for us on the day. The conditions were pretty ordinary but Cobden adapted well and we didn’t.

“We’ve been hit hard by injuries this season and last weekend that list grew even more - we’ve been putting the 18s back the last couple of weeks because that side has a really good chance of having a red hot crack in finals.”

Now that the seniors are out of finals contention, Swayn said his side would concentrate on ending the season on a high note – and hopes to pick up a couple of wins in the remaining four rounds.

Final scores last Saturday were Camperdown 6.1.37 to Cobden 12.16.88.

Best for the Magpies were William Rowbottom, Brian Fanning, Luke O’Neil, Joshua Place, James O’Neil and Nick Jones.

Paddy Baker, Sidney Bradshaw, Fraser Lucas, Cameron Spence, Isaac Stephens and Harry Sumner kicked one goal each.

Camperdown’s reserves struggled against the in-form Bombers, kicking just one behind for the game while the home side booted 14.15.99.

Luke Ball, Luke Clarke, Dale McDowell, James McVilly, Leigh Ball and Billy Conheady were named in the best for the Magpies.

Camperdown’s under 18 footballers are currently sitting fifth on the league ladder, two games clear of the Cobden Bombers after last weekend’s 93-point win.

Final scores were Camperdown 13.16.94 to Cobden 0.1.1.

Jonty Lafferty and Tarkyn Love kicked three goals each while Tom Baker added two.

Other goals went to Jacan Brooks, Wilba Cheeseman, Kona Kerr, Solly Mahony and Darcy Vick.

Best players were Lafferty, Brock Stephens, Darcy Vick, Love, Tom Baker and Myles Sinnott.

Camperdown’s junior netballers remain in finals contention, with the club’s 17 and unders, 17 and under reserves, 13 and under, and 13 and under reserves sides all currently sitting in the top five on their respective ladders.
