In front of a home crowd at Leura Oval, the Magpies got the early jump on Port Fairy, kicking 5.4 in the opening term while containing the Seagulls to just two behinds.

However, the visitors were quick to bounce back in the second, adding five majors while the Magpies could manage just 1.2 to bring the margin back to eight points going in to the main break.

A relatively even third quarter saw the margin remain the same heading into the final term but to their credit the Magpies held strong and took the win by 20 points, 11.15.81 to 9.7.61.

Hamish Sinnott, Cameron Spence, Eric Guthrie, Matthew Field, Angus Gordon and Harry Sumner were named in the best.

Lenny Stephens, in his first senior game for the club, was quick to make an impact, contributing to the scoreboard with a goal.

Team-mates Matthew Field (2), Judah Dundon, Eric Guthrie, Fraser Lucas, Isaac McVilly, Hamish Sinnott, Zach Sinnott, Cameron Spence and Isaac Stephens also scored majors for the day.

Coming off a win, the Magpies will now turn their focus to this weekend’s round 16 match against ladder leaders South Warrnambool at Friendlies.

Their run home will see them face bottom-side Portland next week before rounding out the home and away season against the second-placed North Warrnambool at Leura Oval.

Camperdown’s reserves also celebrated a win on the weekend, defeating Port Fairy 16.10.106 to 4.7.31.

Other contributors were Aidan Conheady, Jonty Lafferty and Darcy Vick with a goal apiece.

Best players for the side were Tom Baker, Tarkyn Love, Myles Sinnott, Daniel Ryan, Wilba Cheeseman and Jacan Brooks.

Just three games out of the top five, Camperdown’s Open netball side has performed remarkably well this season, gaining valuable on-court experience.
