THE Camperdown Magpies senior football side had a game to forget over the weekend, suffering a 172-point loss.
The game was a blowout from the first quarter as the North Warrnambool Eagles ran up a 9.5.59 score line while holding the Magpies without a point.
The second quarter was not any less forgiving as North Warrnambool held a commanding 18.6.114 to 4.0.24 lead going in to the break.
The lead continued to rise by the end of the third as the Eagles reached a 5.0.30 to 30.9.189 lead before running out 172-point winners.
Final results were Camperdown Magpies 6.2.38 to 33.12.210 North Warrnambool Eagles.
Best players on the ground were Cameron Spence, Sam Gordon and Zach Sinnott.
Gordon kicked three majors to lead the scoring, followed by Sinnott, Cameron Spence and Tim Fitzgerald with one goal apiece.
Senior football coach Neville Swayn said his message to the players following the difficult performance was to simply move on.
“It was a really disappointing way to finish the year,” he said.
“Obviously North are a very good side but it was one of our most disappointing games that we’ve had all year.
“We felt over the second half of the year we’ve made some improvements but I’m not sure why we played the way we did; the boys were pretty flat.
“Our message after the game was simply to put the game to bed and move on.”
