MEMBERS of Country Women’s Association (CWA) groups from across the region have raised funds for those in need overseas following the success of their local fundraiser.

The success of the recent local fundraiser saw funds raised for the Terang Ambulance Victoria branch, but this round of fundraising will travel further afield after members of the CWA South Western Group branches raised money to purchase water tanks for communities in the pacific island regionof Malaysia.

Each year the groups select an international nation to study and raise funds for, with Malaysia receiving the nod this year.

CWA South Western Group president Bev Byron said the members had raised around $275 towards the cause.

“That money really goes a long way in those areas,” she said.

“Hopefully the money we have raised on the day will help people have access toclear water.”

The CWA South Western Group is comprised of members from CWA branches including Mortlake, Terang, Camperdown, Cobden, Timboon, Panmure and Allansford.

As part of the festivities an international member from each branch brought forward a short presentation documenting different aspects of Malaysia, which was presented in the CWA Hall in Terang recently.

Presentations covered fishing and trade, sport, history, culture, religion and language, natural resources, homes and architecture, native animals and vegetation and the flag, currency and clothing.

The groups also brought a diverse range of Malaysian meals to broaden their culinary horizons.

“Thank you to all our members for providing us a very broad view of what Malaysia is like,” Ms Byron said.

“We enjoyed lovely food which we don’t typically get to taste.”

Ms Byron said CWA groups are always interested in welcoming any new members.

Those interested in becoming a member of the CWA can visit www.cwaofvic.org.au or get in touch with your local CWA branch.
