Manager disappointed after Mitre 10 break-in
CAMPERDOWN Mitre 10 store manager Mal McKay has been left disappointed following a break-in the early hours of last Saturday morning.
Thieves allegedly targeted the Scott Street premises Saturday, September 14.
Mr McKay said a stocktake would reveal the extent of what was stolen but socket heads were found to be missing following the incident.
The business also had to replace the bottom section of its glass sliding door at the entrance to the store, which had been smashed during the incident.
Mr McKay said the break-in did not impact the ability of the store to open its doors to the community thanks to the dedicated efforts of staff.
“It happened about 2.15am, so we were here just before 3am to clean everything up and had it all ready to go by 5am,” he said.
“From then on, we haven’t looked back.
“It’s a bit of a setback, but it’s happened to us before and, unfortunately, it’ll probably happen again.”
The Camperdown Mitre 10 is part of the Terang and District Co-operative Limited, which showcased in its recent annual report it had provided $84,876 in sponsorships and donations to the wider community and provided a further $297,455 in members’ rewards.
Mr McKay acknowledged the break-in was disappointing but said he appreciated the support from the wider community.
“I’m not too overly concerned – it’s the way of the world at the moment,” he said.
“We thank the community for all their ongoing support, and we hope we can get given that support into the future.
“The Terang Co-operative will continue to provide the best service and value to Camperdown customers of the Mitre 10 and maintains commitment to supporting local clubs and associations.”
The Camperdown Chronicle reached out repeatedly to Warrnambool police station however, police declined.
