MORTLAKE cricket’s father and son duo Shane and Max Slater proved shining lights in the Cats’ 20 run victory over Spring Creek last weekend.

While dad Shane scored a game-high 69 runs it was 12 year-old Max who stole the show on Sunday, taking an inspirational 3-16 off seven overs, including two wickets in the opening over.

Shane was well supported at the crease by Jason Harris with 24, followed by opener Will Ruddle on 7.

Young Max, who played one division three game last season, made his mark on the game, following up his success with the ball by hitting three runs before he was run out – and the Cats declared at 6/150.

Spring Creek fell 20 runs short and were all out for 130.

“No doubt it was a proud moment for Shane,” club president Simon Ritchie said.

“Young Max is certainly one of our up and coming young stars and he performed really well on the weekend.”
