STUDENTS at Mercy Regional College O’Keeffe junior campus in Noorat received a crash course in cyber safety this week.
Youth liaison officers from Warrnambool Police John Keats and Brooke Pollock visited the school to talk to Year 7 and 8 students about cyber safety.
“John and Brooke discussed with the students potential risks of using social media, the devastating impacts of bullying on young people and their families, and the strategies to support everyone involved in a cyber bullying incident,” O’Keeffe community leader Emily Stephens said.
“The officers spoke about their background, giving examples of real-life situations and describing the ripple effect that positive online behaviours can have on others."
“Respect and reputation were a large part of their session and reiterated to our students the importance of respect for self and others, both online and face-face.”
