THE history of Mercy Regional College (MRC), formerly Catholic Regional College, has been brought to life in a new history book titled ‘A Special Spirit’.
Written by long serving staff member Lachie Lee, the book covers the story of MRC from its inception to the present day as the college celebrates 50 years.
The book will be launched at a special event on Friday, October 13 at the O’Keeffe Campus in Noorat, and members of the community are invited to attend the launch, with drinks and supper provided.
Principal Sharon Gillett said she is looking forward to celebrating the rich history of MRC.
“Lachie has done a brilliant job compiling a wonderful record of the history of our school,” she said.
“So much work has gone into finding details and anecdotes and we hope to celebrate this fantastic new historical asset with our community at the launch.”
Lee said he had enjoyed compiling the book.
“The book has been written as a part of Mercy Regional College’s celebrations for its 50th anniversary this year,” he said.
“It seeks to record the great efforts and sacrifices made by those wanting to establish a Catholic secondary school for the district’s young people.
“In the early years the college faced great challenges in merely surviving and did so through the perseverance and hard work of many people; it is now is a long-established institution with a fine reputation and which has educated generations of young people who have spread far and wide and achieved much.
“It has been a joy and a revelation to have been able to write this book and share what is a wonderful story.”
Entry to the launch is free, with guests asked to RSVP at www.trybooking.com/CLGKL for catering purposes.
