COBDEN export Zac Merrett continues to give back to the club where he played his early footy.

Merrett, who was drafted to AFL club Essendon Bombers in 2014, led a special clinic in Cobden last Friday night – much to the delight of almost 40 local youngsters.

“Zac is not only a great footballer, he’s a top bloke,” Cobden Football Netball Club junior club president Wayne Robertson said.

“When he comes home to Cobden he often dedicates some of his free time to our juniors and that’s extra special for them; to have an AFL footballer show interest and lead a clinic is amazing.

“Some of these kids aspire to being an AFL footballer just like Zac so they’re very excited when he comes to Cobden.”

Merrett (who has already notched up more than 180 games with Essendon) played in Cobden’s losing 2012 senior grand final side – a team coached by Robertson.

“We’ve kept in touch over the years and it’s been great to follow his career to date,” Robertson said.

“We are extremely grateful to Zac for taking time to spend with our juniors; they idolise him and love listening to his stories and learning some skills.”

Last Friday night’s clinic included time out on the oval learning new skills and drills before the weather sent the group indoors for a question and answer session.
