Midweek pennant begins for bowlers

FOR the first time in three years, Camperdown Bowling Club has entered the mid-week pennant competition.

By wd-news

The teams headed to Colac City Bowling Club last Tuesday and came home with three wins.

Vicki Brebner, Barry Atchison, K. Henderson and Stan Adeney all had a very good win, scoring on 15 ends to take the win 34-9.

Maria Van Someren, Henry Henderson, Graham Chamberlain and D. Watts also had a great win, 24-10.

And the third rink of Ron Simcox, Brad Wilson, P. Atchison and Ray Bourke found themselves behind 2-13 by the seventh but never gave up and won 26-18.

This was a great start to the season – next week will see them play home town neighbours, Camperdown Golf, at home.

Many thanks to the shire for the grant which contributed to a new carpet green – it looks impressive and is proving quick.

Division one will play last year’s premiers Winchelsea.

With the departure of one of the team’s skippers Darren Coverdale has stepped up.

Barry Atchison, Harry and Maria Van Someren will join Darren on the rink.

Team two will be Ron Cameron, Fred Salmon, Brad Wilson and Kelvin Rundle.

Team three will be Matt Brewer, Lenny Searle, Henry Henderson and Ray Bourke.

Team four will comprise Luke Wright, Darren Page, Vicki Brebner and Lud Gungl.

Division three will welcome Simpson 2.

Team one: Ron Simcox, Gerard Broaderick, Les Dorman and Jimmy Boyd.

Team two: Stan Adeney, Paul Brebner, Gordan Weller and Pip Robertson.

Team three: Ron Absalom, Tom Hose, Pam Archison and Gavin Cain.

Team four: Les Pearson, Graham Chamberlain, Max Rippon and Ton Vermaas.

Managers will be advised. Umpire of the day will be Stan Adeney.

Duty teams are Darren Coverdale’s and Ron Simcox’s.

All players are reminded to bring a plate of food for afternoon tea.

Camperdown division five was to play Camperdown Golf, but they are unable to fill a side.

The two teams of Barnie Dickson, Brett Noonan, Flynn Wagner, Caroline Strampel, Graham Bradshaw, Donna Watts, Sophie Pearson and Judy Borthwick are still to arrive at 1pm and will play each until 3pm in a practice match.

Players are reminded to please ring selectors or write your name on the board if unavailable to play.

Dates to remember – Saturday, October 26 is the Giants turning Pink day against Colac Lakes; Friday, December 20 is the Christmas break-up dinner for sponsors, players and families.
