Milestone game for Lucas

CAMPERDOWN footballer Jeremy Lucas will play his 100th reserves game for the Magpies this weekend.

Lucas will run on to the Bushfield Oval tomorrow (Saturday) for his milestone match, which will be played against the North Warrnambool Eagles.

“I’m pretty proud to reach this milestone, I guess not everyone gets to play 100 reserve games with the same club,” Lucas said.

“Having grown up in the town it’s pretty special to be able to play footy alongside my family and friends.

“We’ve got quite a long history with the Magpies; it’s a great club to belong to both on and off the field.

“It’s very much a team sport, not about individual achievements, so it’d be great to come home with a win. We’ve had a couple of wins over the past few weeks so it’d be nice to get a few on the run.”

After progressing through the Magpies’ Sunday junior program, Lucas made his Saturday debut in 2011 under coach Robbie Gordon.

During that season he notched up 19 under 18 games for the Magpies before the team was knocked out in the semi-final.

The following year he played a further 19 under 18 games, collecting the Most Consistent Award for the year, before making his debut in the Magpies’ reserves team, under coach Stephen Fitzgerald, in season 2013.

Lucas earned a regular place in the reserves line-up from season 2014 when he also made his senior debut under coach Dan Casey- and enjoyed four appearances with the seniors that year.

Lucas notched up 17 reserves games in seasons 2015 and 2016 and followed that up with another seven appearances the following year under new coach Stephen Sinnott.

In season 2018 Lucas enjoyed 16 games under coach Daryl Mayman before taking a break from the sport.

He returned in season 2022 where, under coach Tim Fitzgerald, he enjoyed eight reserves games.

Last season saw him add another 11 to his tally; bringing him to 92 reserve games at the start of season 2024.
