Mixed fortunes for Cockatoos
IT was a bag of mixed fortunate for the Cobden Cockatoo bowlers.
The club enjoyed a surprise win for division two in weekend pennant over a strong Winchelsea side on Winch’s home turf.
Cobden scraped in by two shots in a close game 90-92, winning two rinks and climbing back up to fourth on the ladder.
Littler, Erwin, Knuckey and Walters defeated Noah Mungean, Colin Hammond, Greg Rooke and Bazil Hammond 25-17.
Terry Beasley, Brendan Hutt, Leon Carrigan and Lachie Taylor scraped in by one, winning 20-19 over Williams, Walker, McConachy and Brandenburg.
Nick Kemp, Ash Sinnott, Petter Richardson and Kathryn Robertson had a good win, 13-27, over Davie, Sorensen, Wojtowicz and Warner.
Hateley, Doyle, Knuckey and Lloyd defeated Darren Mulgrew, Murray Williamson, Brendan Hammond and Tom Robertson 33-28.
Division three is also placed fourth on the ladder after struggling against City to eventually lose 80-86 at City.
Cobden was only able to secure the points on one rink with a resounding win of 37-15 shots.
Richard McVilly, Ken Lynch, David Luker and Kath Spokes put their best foot forward defeating Bartlett, Leslie, Hanson and Moore.
Bert Strampel, Don Anderson, Colin Spokes and Ken Farquharson lost 13-19 to Howard, Nolan, Hickey and Giblett.
David Staggard, Janelle Rohan, Keith Simmonds and Brian Howard lost 14-24 to Fanelli, Inglis, Robbins and Lawrence.
Trevor Roberts, Pat Hickey, Colin Whiteside and Jim O’Shea also lost 16-28 from Copeland, Bamford, McMahon and Nolan.
Division four lost at home to Cressy, sitting them fifth on the ladder, just one point behind Lorne 2.
They won two rinks but it wasn’t enough to get them over the line, losing 51-60.
Joy Beaton, Loreign Andrews, Evelyn Grayland and Daniel Crowe lost 12-24 to Rodgers, Stinchcombe, Nelson and Lang.
Paul Dwyer, Jeff Hester, Keith Lander and Janine Hutt squeezed home 16-15 from Turner, Horne, Cahill and Matheson.
Doreen Coverdale, Claire Reynolds, Garry Matheson and John Raeside also won, 23-21, over Keating, Cahill, Green and Lang.
In midweek pennant Cobden was unlucky to lose by two shots to Cressy at home, 72-74, in division one.
Bert Strampel, Trevor Roberts, Kath Spokes and Doreen Coverdale won 26-22 from Turner, Spry, Tanis and Bath.
Ann Scott, Bazil Hammond, Elaine Telford and Loreign Andrews went down 18-26 to Stinchcombe, Keating, Nelson and Keating.
Denis Delaney, Sue Couch, Peter Richardson and Brian Howard won over Keating, McLaren, Parker and Lang 28-26.
Cobden is now seventh on the ladder.
Division three put up a good showing, defeating Lorne 82-72, also played at home.
Cobden is fifth on the ladder, but 10 points behind fourth placed Birregurra.
With a strong win, Claire Reynolds, Colin Spokes, David Luker and Des Couch won 38-20 over Leckie, Reddie, Williams and Verrall.
Joy Beaton, Jill Lynch, Patsy Neal and Pam Savage made a late charge to get the points 23-22 from Mackenzie, Olney, McIver and O’Mara.
Janelle Rohan, Paul Dwyer, Evelyn Grayland and David Childs were defeated by Issell, Lugg, McCombe and Heathcote 21-30.
There will be no midweek pennant this week due to the Melbourne Cup holiday and division two has a bye the following week, making it difficult to maintain momentum.
