LISMORE Derrinallum remains outside the top five after three rounds of Mininera League football.

The Demons, who have one win under their belts following their opening round victory over Moyston Willaura, found the going tough against Penshurst last weekend.

In ideal playing conditions for footy, the home side went down by 17-points, 8.11.59 to 10.16.76.

The Bombers got an early jump over the Demons, kicking 3.5 to four points in the first quarter but the Demons rallied in the second to add three majors while containing the visitors to two.

Trailing by 13-points at the half-time break the Demons dug deep in the second half, making better use of their opportunities in the forward line, but were unable to bridge the gap.

Dale Marquand, William Beever, Josh Sanders, Henry Walsh, Jayden Molloy and Ruben Vesikuru were named best for the Demons.

Goals went to Vesikuru (3), Liam Rigby (2), James Halloran, Andrew Parkinson and Josh Sanders.

The Demons reserves were more fortunate on the day and went home victors, 19.7.121 to Penshurst 7.4.46.

Connor O’Keefe, Timothy Turner, Steven Fisher, Ryan Jeffrey, Lachlan Nelson and Luke Fellows were named among the best for the home side.

O’Keefe booted nine goals for the day and was supported on the board by Ryan Jeffrey with four, Zachariah Gellie (2), Lachlan Nelson (2), Kelly Brain and Jarrid Gilbert.

Lismore Derrinallum’s A grade netballers were rewarded for consistency and a strong pre-season under coach Amy Lodge with a 19-goal win over Penshurst, 44-25.

Anita Burchell scored 27 goals for the match while Rachel Vagg added 17.

“We were absolutely stoked to take the win,” Lodge said.

“Realistically, going into the game, I was focussing on just being competitive and playing our own game; to come out with the win was amazing.”

The win also places the undefeated Demons on top of the A grade ladder after three rounds, percentage ahead of second-placed Hawkesdale Macarthur.

The Demons’ B grade side had a tight-tussle with Penhurst but was defeated 14-21. Isabella Taylor and Sophie Cook were named best on court for the home side.

In the C grade game, Lismore Derrinallum lost to Penshurst 23-14.
