TERANG skipper Sam Munro praised Tommy Moloney and Tyson Hay for playing starring roles in the Goats victory over Simpson last week.

Moloney scored an unbeaten century – his first for the club – while Hay took a five wicket haul as Terang won by

“It was a pretty comprehensive win and finally we were on the right side of someone making a hundred,” Munro said.

“Tommy made his maiden century for the club which was special and Tyson Hay got a five-for which was good too.

“They were the two big standouts of our younger fellas on the next tier down which was great to see.”

Moloney finished unbeaten on 100 from 132 balls in a knock which included nine fours and showed courage, composure and maturity according to Munro.

“He got clipped on the chin by Noah Ackerley and then got hit in the ribs later but when he got hit on the chin he still went forward to defend a ball,” Munro said.

“He showed a lot of courage by being forward and a lot of composure because at the time he wasn’t set and he could have easily tried to take his frustrations out and hit him out of the attack.

“We all thought he was on if he was going to treat a ball with respect and he went on to play a strong innings which was great.

“He showed a lot of maturity.”

Munro praised Hay for his effort with the bat as well as the ball, with the all-rounder making 33 to go alongside his figures of 5/25.

“Tyson set the tone really quick with the bat, he got some streaky runs early and got his confidence up,” he said.

“But with the ball he got the first breakthrough and seemed to have the ball talking a bit which was good to watch.

“It was really pleasing for both of those guys and hopefully gives confidence to the lads that we have some really handy cricketers around that when they are on we can be a great side.”

Terang is now set to take on Bookaar at Frederick Street Oval, with Munro keen to see his side back up its victory.

He said the Pelicans would present a tough challenge for his young side, but he was confident a strong performance would give them every chance of winning.

“We want to be consistent each week so our aim is to back up a good performance and not let a good week be wasted with a poor performance the following,” Munro said.

“We want to be competitive in every game and we saw with the game against Noorat that if we can fight it out that we are never going to be too far out of a game.

“We nearly stole it in the end although we didn’t deserve to win it. We were fortunate we bowled well all day and if a couple of chances hadn’t been grassed it could have been different.

“But we know if we can fight it out as much we can then we can hopefully be on the right side of the result.”
