Monash Motorsport hits track at Cobden
THE South West Kart Club in Cobden hosted the Monash Motorsport team last week.
Members of the team used the track to test out its brand new technology with a driverless race car as well as get some lap time on their formula vehicle.
Head of European campaign Michaela Sykes-Turne said Monash Motorsport will be travelling to Europe for competition later this year for the first time.
She said the team were enjoying their time at the Cobden track.
Ms Sykes-Turner said normally the team practices near Monash but jumped at the opportunity to visit Cobden, which has similar track conditions to where the team will race as part of its campaign in Europe.
“It’s a really nice track here,” she said.
“We’re planning to come down next week as well.”
Ms Sykes-Turner said about 70 students were part of the Monash Motorsport team, with team members having a range of study backgrounds including engineering, commerce, marketing and design.
As part of the project the students build the electric car from the ground up each season.
Design wise the team’s vehicles are a little larger than a go kart, but more aerodynamic.
The cars can travel up to 120km per hour.
