LOCALS packed in to the Terang Returned and Services League (RSL) hall on Monday morning to enjoy good music and company as part of the club’s inaugural Morning Melodies session.

Gary McKenzie, Arty Hoey, Robbie Lehmann, Brett Holbrook and Joe Musico were among those to captivate the bustling crowd.

Terang RSL president Terry Fidge said club members had worked hard behind the scenes to ensure the COVIDsafe event could go ahead, and were overjoyed to fill the hall to capacity.

“The day was a huge success which actually exceeded our expectations,” he said.

Mr Fidge said the sessions were secured as an ongoing event after attendees, who filled out dozens of questionnaires on the day, indicated “overwhelming support”.

“Everybody was in favour of it,” he said.

“So Morning Melodies will go ahead on the last Monday of every month going forward.

“We were really rapt with it and the people who were there had a wonderful time.”

The event was such a success organisers have requested those interested in attending future Morning Melodies sessions call ahead to book a spot.

Booking in early will help organisers remain compliant with COVIDsafe attendance requirements.

“We recommend anyone wanting to come calls Judy Walters on 0437 104 177 and make a booking, because we can’t get more in than what we had and don’t want to have to turn people away,” Mr Fidge said.

“Those who call ahead will be assured ofa seat.”

Judy Walters, who serves as a co-organiser to the Morning Melodies sessions, said she was thrilled with the fundraising aspects ofthe event.

“It was excellent,” she said.

“We haven’t tallied how much was raised yet, but we are very happy with it.”

The concept for the club was to approach the morning melodies sessions with community at the heart of the event.

The sessions provide an opportunity for residents to enjoy morning tea together while local musicians put on a show, while also providing the Terang RSL with fundraising to help ensure the club remains independent.

Mr Fidge said the Terang RSL club was one of just six independent RSL clubs in Victoria.

“The funds go towards the hall and veteran support, and being an independent club we’re not supported so we need to raise the funds to keep going,” he said.

“We appreciate the community support in helping us to keep doing that.”
