Mortlake Bowls

This Week in Mortlake was huge, as we celebrated our centenary last Saturday.
A great afternoon tea was had by all who attended and some wonderful history throughout the years.
In other news, WDPA events kicked into full swing last week with the WDPA mixed pairs and two entries from Mortlake - defending champions George Draffen and Jacinta Marney and Les Johnson and Betty Johnson (City).
George and Jacinta worked their way up to the semi-finals where they met Les and Betty.
With Les’ last bowl, drew shot and went through to the final. Congratulations to WDPA mixed pairs champions - Les and Betty Johnson!
In the WDPA over 60’s pairs, Anne van Diemen and Glenice Kenna led the charge in the women’s section but couldn’t progress.
A similar story for George Draffen and Peter Summerhayes in the men’s section.
Hopes this Sunday that the WDPA mens triples team of George Draffen, Dave McNicoll and Peter Beardsley can defend their title this year.
Speaking of which, this Saturday and Sunday are huge if you aren’t playing WDPA events.
At Mortlake on Saturday, is the intra club practice afternoon and if you are considering playing pennant this season, you should put your name down for this one.
It is a good opportunity to test your skills against other members of the club and tighten up your game before pennant starts next week.
Sunday is the nominated mixed triples and entries are being taken either full or partial teams, as well as single entries. 1pm start, casual.
Pennant starts next week with midweek pennant kicking off on Tuesday (Oct. 11) and weekend pennant kicking off Saturday, (Oct. 15).
Just a reminder that memberships are now due and have risen $10 from last year.
Please speak to treasurer Richard Draffen if you have any questions regarding this.
Things are starting to heat up at Mortlake - are you ready? Let’s go!
