DESPITE blustery conditions at the Cobden greens, Mortlake’s two over 60s sides played off for premiership honours earlier this week.
For the last 16 weeks teams from Camperdown, Cobden, Timboon, Terang and Mortlake have competed in the competition, with some quality bowls played.
The two Mortlake teams – Blue and White – played each other in very blustery conditions.
One team member had suggested that a coin toss could decide the winner – but Mortlake White players were keen to prove they could beat Blue, who had been on top of the ladder for most of the season.
Many good bowls were put down despite the strong winds and in the end Mortlake White was too strong for Mortlake Blue, winning by 24 shots 49-25.
Mortlake White A. Wentworth (s), P. Summerhayes and N. Smith 20 defeated Blue B. Murray (s), J. Wallace and F. Robertson 13.
White P. Palmer (s), L. Inverarity and J. Rasmussen 29 defeated Blue M. Heard (s), D. Casale and A. Pusey 12.
