Mower makes a big difference
MOWING at Lake Elingamite has gotten much easier for hardworking volunteers thanks to support from the local community.
Cobden Angling Club president Bryan Poole said the club was based at popular fishing spot Lake Elingamite.
Club members look after the maintenance of the lawn area, something that sees hours of time committed.
The job has gotten easier following the purchase of a Hustler Fast Track zero turn ride on mower at a cost of $18,000.
Mr Poole said a variety of fundraising efforts went in to purchasing the mower.
“We got a $5000 grant from Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank,” he said.
“We got $2000 from the Corangamite Shire and then the club did a lot of fundraising as well to fund the money for it.”
Mr Poole said the club appreciated the ongoing support of the wider community.
“Thank you to all of the community for supporting our raffles and thank you to the businesses for the donations of food that we raffled,” he said.
“Thank you to the Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank and Corangamite Shire for their grants.
“Thank you to the club members for their time selling the tickets and doing the barbecues as well.”
Mr Poole said the new mower had helped reduce the time it takes to cut the extensive grassed area.
“It’s halved the time to cut the grass,” he said.
“It should keep David and Neville happy who do the maintenance for the club.”
Cobden and Camperdown Community Bank board chair Pat Robertson said the board was pleased to support the club with the purchase of the mower.
“It’s great that we can support community groups and clubs who do so much for the broader community,” she said.
“Something like this that can save the volunteers time I think is important.”
