BOORCAN’S division two side will take on Simpson in this Saturday’s South West Cricket grand final.
The Dragons put on a strong performance with bat and ball last weekend to defeat Heytesbury Rebels by 11 runs.
In what was a low-scoring affair, the Dragons batted first and made 9/92 off their 40 overs.
Despite the relatively low score, the players kept their heads and bowled the Rebels out for 81, giving team captain Lachie Boyle victory on what was his 200th game.
Will Owen (24) and Connor Jackson (20) were the only two to make double figures with the bat, while best of the bowlers were Tim Fleming 3/9 off eight, Daniel Boyle 2/11 off three and Will Owen 2/14 off eight.
The Dragons’ win kick-started celebrations for the club, with several players featuring at the South West Cricket Association annual awards night earlier this week.
Henry Moyle was named division two ‘Cricketer of the Year’ after polling 13 votes, while several players finished within the top 10 in the batting and bowling awards.
Bowling – Daniel Boyle finished 2nd overall with 19 wickets while Henry Moyle finished 5th (17 wickets) and Connor Jackson 10th (12 wickets).
Batting – Lachie Boyle finished 2nd overall on 332 runs, with Henry Moyle 3rd (329) and Regan Nelson 7th (274).
This Saturday’s division two grand final will be played at Terang Turf from 12.30pm.
