WANNON MP Dan Tehan has announced federal funding of more than $2.2 million for six Moyne Shire projects as part of its $1.5 billion local road and community infrastructure program.

The project was designed to support local jobs, businesses and boost the economy during COVID-19, with works including the rehabilitation of sections of Woorndoo-Dundonnell Road and Caramut-Chatsworth Road.

The works will also include the renewal and widening of Hopkins Falls Bridge and the creation of eight car parks in Port Fairy.

Mr Tehan said getting shovels in the ground on local construction projects was important for maintaining jobs and economic growth in Wannon.

“Every single job we support makes a huge difference in our local community, both now and as we build our way out of the pandemic,” he said.

“That is why we have moved quickly to approve funding to flow to Moyne Shire Council.”

He said the new program would support jobs, construction businesses and economic growth across the Moyne Shire while also improving road safety and the resilience of local road networks.

“We are working closely with our local councils in Wannon to ensure local projects get underway and supporting jobs and businesses as soon as possible,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the projects would have lasting economic and social benefits for local communities.

“Our funding boost will help communities across Australia accelerate priority projects to get people into jobs and stimulate our economy,” he said.

“Having only announced the program in late May, we are moving decisively to deliver the support councils and communities need to get through this pandemic and get back on their feet.”
