COBDEN Technical School leading teacher Narelle Holliday was invited to attend the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning Achievement Awards in Melbourne last week.

She was one of 11 VCAL quality assurance panel leaders across the state who were recipients of the 2022 VCAA Chair’s Award recognising outstanding achievement.

The award recognised Ms Holliday’s outstanding contribution and support towards the delivery and promotion of VCAL and applied learning across our region through coordination of the VCAL quality assurance (QA) process, and as a champion of VCAL in our school and community.

School principal Mr Rohan Keert congratulated her on the award.

“We are so delighted for Narelle who is widely regarded as the go to expert in applied learning,” he said.

“The Cobden Tech School community is very fortunate to have Narelle, who is a former CTS student at our school.”

Ms Holliday said during the almost 20 years of VCAL, 395,000 students finished their secondary education studying their applied learning subjects.

She said her favourite subject was personal development skills, with the class giving students an opportunity to engage with their communities and complete lasting projects that allowed for positive memories of their final years at school.

“As the VCAL Quality Assurance Leader for the 31 VCAL providers in the Warrnambool area it has been a pleasure to learn about all the engaging classes that the students have been studying,” Ms Holliday said.

“This award was an unexpected honour and will be a lasting reminder of my years working with great VCAL teams both at Cobden Technical School, Terang College, the Warrnambool schools and the other VCAL QA Leaders across the state.”
