Narrow loss for Demons
LISMORE Derrinallum’s senior footballers are hanging on to their spot in the top five despite a narrow loss to the Tigers last weekend.
The Demons now sit on equal points but a small percentage above the sixth-placed Hawkesdale Macarthur and will be keen to get back on the winners’ list when they face Caramut tomorrow (Saturday).
Last weekend’s home game against Woorndoo Mortlake was a nail-biter for the Demons, who held on to a slim lead all day only to concede in the final term by just three points.
The Demons got off to a quick start, kicking 3.1 in the opening term to the Tigers’ 1.3 and by half-time held on to a nine-point lead.
Just eight points separated the two sides at three-quarter time, setting the scene for a nail-biting final quarter.
In what proved a tight tussle for possession, with pressure all over the ground, the Demons added 2.3 to the board while the visitors came back with 4.2 to take the win.
Final scores were Lismore Derrinallum 9.9.63 to Woorndoo Mortlake 9.12.66.
Best for the Demons were Blake Scott, Harry Bufton, Nicholas Schiemer, Liam Rigby, James Halloran and Robert Jamieson.
Scott kicked two goals while Jack Atkins, Matthew Bacon, Lachie Constable, Jack McCallum, Darcy Robinson and Bradley Ward each kicked one.
The reserves now sit third on the league ladder following a commanding 37-point win over the Tigers on Saturday.
Final scores were Lismore Derrinallum 11.12.78 to Woorndoo Mortlake 6.5.41.
Best for the Demons were Johno Benallack, Samuel Miller, Ryan Marquand, Jack Sanders, Timothy Turner and Ryan Jeffrey.
Jeffrey had a great day out in front of goals, booting five for the day, while Kelvin Scott kicked two and Benallack, Aaron Cartledge, Samuel Miller and Sanders kicked one each.
Round five resulted in three wins and three losses on the netball courts for the Demons.
A grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Lismore Derrinallum 55-34.
B grade –Lismore Derrinallum defeated Woorndoo Mortlake 35-31.
C grade – Lismore Derrinallum defeated Woorndoo Mortlake 40-12. Best: Emily Murray and Jaala Perkins.
18 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Lismore Derrinallum 52-13. Best: Jessica Miller and Nessa Lewis.
15 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Lismore Derrinallum 39-7. Best: Kyro Johnson.
13 and under – Lismore Derrinallum defeated Woorndoo Mortlake 13-7.
