National selection for Aidan
CAMPERDOWN netballer Aidan Conheady will pull on the green and gold for the upcoming international season.
After strong performances at the national championships, backed by an impressive attendance at the recent Australian selection camp in New South Wales, Conheady was selected in the Australian Men’s and Mixed Netball Association’s 17 and under side.
The talented teen was named at goal attack in the National Championship’s ‘All Star 7’ after a stellar performance at the event.
His introduction to the sport came at an early age, spending weekends courtside watching sister Ruby in action.
“When I was younger I was always dragged along to watch Ruby play for Camperdown so I guess that’s where my interest in the game began,” Conheady said.
“I played junior netball at school at St Pat’s and also played night netball at Cobden which was great.
“Goal attack is probably my preferred position but I don’t mind having a run in centre.”
Conheady’s netball commitments also include state league competition which sees him travel to Melbourne for games each Wednesday from next month.
“Mum usually runs me down to Melbourne but we’re lucky that there’s also another player who comes from Colac who I can sometimes get a lift with.
“I love the sport and I’m excited to now be a part of the Australian team.
“I’m not yet sure when we’ll start training as a national team but we’ve been told we will be competing in New Zealand sometime late November which is exciting.”
