National success for karate club
THE Camperdown-Terang Funakoshi Karate Club has brought home a swag of medals from the national championships.

The all styles karate championships, held on the Gold Coast, attracted strong competition from across the country.
On day one of competition, Jill Cole finished first in the female veterans 40 year old plus continuous sparring event and second in the female advanced 5th kyu black belt continuous sparring.
She was also placed third in the male\female veterans 50 year old plus kata competiton.
Overall, she finished with the title of national champion in the veterans 51 plus point sparring and veterans 40 plus point sparring.
She was also placed second in the light and welter weight open sparring and the state versus state sparring.
Day two saw Tobi Cole named national champion in the state versus state sparring event.
Local instructor Peter Conroy returned to competition in the male veterans’ kata and as a level three member of the Australian Referee Board was honoured to be appointed (for his first time) a judge in both the male and female state versus state points sparring events.
