CAMPERDOWN Motorcycle Club gave a $500 cheque to the Warrnambool and District Community Hospice recently.

The hospice is a volunteer-run organization that provides end-of-life care to those needing palliative care, allowing them to stay at home longer.

Camperdown Motorcycle Club president Sam Argyle said he hopes the donation will keep the hospice as a viable entity in the community.

“They don’t get any government funds; it’s all done on a volunteer basis,” he said.

“They’ve got costs such as insurance, and all the other stuff you usually have to deal with.

“It’s a good cause.

“We’ve had two members in the past 18 months pass from cancer, and in their last days the hospice was very much involved in keeping them comfortable.”

The cheque was presented to Warrnambool Hospice Management Committee director Shirley Harlock, who attended with local volunteers Barbara O’Neill and Maree Hislop.

Ms Harlock said, as a volunteer organization, community funding is “critical” to enabling the hospice to continue operating.

“We’re very grateful for organizations such as the Camperdown Motorcycle Club for considering us in their generosity,” she said.
