THE day of the St Patrick’s School sports had arrived.

Even though it started off drizzling, the clouds parted for some of the day and the water was a comfortable 26 degrees.

In the lead-up to the swimming sports, all grade 3-6 students participated in swimming lessons for eight days at the Camperdown pool.

The swimming lessons were run by The Splash Factory from Warrnambool.

The instructors were really nice and taught us a lot.

On Monday February 27, all the grade 3-6 students competed in the swimming carnival at the Camperdown pool.

The Parents and Friends Association ran the barbecue.

There was a great variety of food including sausages and burgers, as well as fruit boxes.

The food was very delicious!

The strokes swam were freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.

The age group champions were:

Nine-year-old: girls Emma Lillie, boys Lewie West.

Ten-year-old: girls Essi Myers, boys Theo Cheeseman.

Eleven-year-old: girls Etti Glennen, boys Harry Sinnott.

Twelve-year-old: girls Olive Wills, boys Alex Huggins.

We especially congratulate Essi Myers who did an amazing job on the day, breaking two records.

Essi now holds the current record in the grade 3/4 girls freestyle with a time of 24.86 and grade 3/4 girls breaststroke with a time of 35.12.

The day concluded with a teachers versus student relay.

This race was a great way to end the day, with everyone cheering along.

Unfortunately the teachers won but we think there may have been a little bit of cheating involved!

Our overall winner was Nazareth House with an average of 6.49.

Second was Lourdes House with 6.08. Fatima House came in third place with 6.00 and fourth place went to Mercy House with 5.87.

We would like to thank Mr Harkin and all the teachers for organising the big day.

A big thank you also to all the parents and grandparents who came to support the children, the team at The Splash Factory Warrnambool and the lifeguards, Will and Georgia, for making sure everyone was safe in the water.
