Open coach Sophie Hinkley praised the efforts of her playing group, along with the club’s coaches and many volunteers, saying their on-court success was a true reflection of the dedication of all at the Bombers.
“I’m super proud of our netball program at Cobden,” Hinkley said.
“We are very fortunate to have the strong playing groups that we do, driven by amazing coaches who buy in to the professional and expectations we have at the club to make the top five.”
Hinkley made mention of the dedication and hard work of the likes of Molly Huff, Jess McGlade, Nadine McNamara, Sophie Blake, Sarah Moroney and Em Finch who had all taken on leadership roles in various forms.
“So many of our open girls have taken on coaching and other leadership roles and that has been of great benefit to all players,” Hinkley said.
“What we learn at training and put into practice on game day can be filtered right down through all senior sides and even to the junior squads.
“Our game plans are universal and can be adapted to suit the age level and abilities of all.”
Building on such a solid foundation has, Hinkley believes, provided the club with the longevity that some others in the league may not be so fortunate to have.
“While some clubs may have struggled with player numbers in recent years, we have been very fortunate in terms of player retention.”
And that appears to be paying off at the Bombers, with its on-court success continuing in 2022.
“We’ve had a great year so far, and with the home and away season behind us we’re now focusing on finals and will be doing all we can to bring some flags back to Cobden.”
