MERCY Regional College will be well represented at the state netball championships later this year.

Three teams from the college – the senior girls, year eight girls and the intermediate boys’ teams have all earned the right to represent the region at the championships.

In an extra special twist, the intermediate boys are the first ever all-male team at the college.

The three teams represented MRC at HSSD (Hampden Secondary School Sports Division) and GWR (Greater Western Region) competitions towards the end of term three with great success.

In its final game on Friday June 17, the senior side defeated Emmanuel College by four goals.

The year eight side defeated Emmanuel College by three goals in overtime on Wednesday June 22.

The following day the intermediate boys’ enjoyed a 33-26 goal victory over Ballarat High School.

Year eight girls coach Emily Stephens said she was thrilled with the team’s success.

“Their composure, team spirit and talent were impressive to watch and we couldn’t be prouder of them making it to the state level,” Emily said.

“What an incredibly talented cohort of netballers we have in our region.”

MRC sports coordinator Darren Cheeseman thanked everyone involved in organising, umpiring, coaching and supervising the students.

“Congratulations to all students who contributed to the success of their team and good luck at the state championships,” he said.
