TALENTED Camperdown netballers Krystal and Claire Blain have been recognised and honoured by the South West Academy of Sport (SWAS).

They were presented with a Corangamite Strength and Conditioning Award last week in recognition of their achievements on the netball court.

The awards were presented during last Friday night’s presentation evening at Deakin’s Warrnambool campus.

In 2022 SWAS athletes were able to get back into routines of regular training and competitions.

With regular competition, those athletes received a range of accolades, including representative team selections at national, state and regional levels.

Of the 96 athletes in SWAS across 15 sports, just under 40 per cent of athletes saw competition representing Victoria and 15 per cent of athletes competed for Australia in international competitions.

More than 80 guests attended the ceremony, including athletes, sponsors, board members, coaches, shire counsellors and mayors of the region.

Olympian and dual world record holder Penny Smith presented the awards and announced she would take a more in-depth role for 2023 in the development of young, emerging clay target shooters in the region.
