Netballers finals bound
LISMORE Derrinallum’s senior netballers have their sights set on the upcoming finals series.

LISMORE Derrinallum’s senior netballers have their sights set on the upcoming finals series.
The Demons’ A grade side now sits comfortably in fifth spot on the Mininera ladder, a game clear of Woorndoo Mortlake in sixth (who will meet top side Tatyoon tomorrow).
Senior coach Amy Lodge said she was “stoked” with the Demons’ performance this season and the opportunity to play finals was reward for effort.
“It’s very exciting to be coming into the final round of the home and away season knowing that finals are about to start and we will actually be playing,” Lodge said.
The Demons’ A grade side faced tough opposition in Ararat last weekend, going down 25-64, but Lodge said they weren’t disheartened and would learn from the experience.
“They were a great side and we really enjoyed the game. Their goal attack was absolutely amazing; shooting from anywhere in the circle and missing very few,” Lodge said.
“Steff Cox worked hard in defence and managed to get her hands to lots of balls and Tess Lamont was as reliable as always in the midcourt.”
Lodge said her team would take a lot out of the game heading into finals.
“It’s looking like we will play either Ararat or Hawkesdale Macarthur in the elimination final Sunday week and given we’ve played them both in recent weeks we now know how they play and can work around that.”
In other games at Ararat last weekend, the Demons’ B grade team was defeated 21-51, with Madison Helmore named best on court for her side.
C grade enjoyed a comfortable 23-17 goal win with Jaala Perkins and Emily Murray best for the Demons.
This now puts the side in fifth spot – a game clear of Glenthompson Dunkeld in sixth.
Final positions on the C grade ladder will be determined tomorrow, with Ararat (3rd), Woorndoo Mortlake (4th) and Lismore Derrinallum (5th) all on equal points and separated only by percentage.
There was no game for the Demons’ 17s and 15s due to Ararat being unable to field sides this season.
Lismore Derrinallum’s 13 and under team continued its dominance, winning 35-7 (Breeana Daffy best on court).
They currently sit on top of the ladder with just one loss for the season to date.
The Demons will host Great Western tomorrow for the final round of the home and away season.
