NOORAT Primary School may soon uncover the next NBA superstar after the installation of a new basketball court.
The installation of a new non-slip basketball court was completed at the school last week, replacing the old synthetic court which had become outdated, mouldy and slipperywhen wet.
Noorat Primary School principal Ilona Watkins said the new court would not only be a safer option for students, but was made from 100 per cent recycled materials.
“It’s been a long time coming,” she said.
“The synthetic court was well past its time so thanks to our Parents and Friends Association, and other fundraisers and budgeting we’ve been doing, we’ve been able to install a new court which is good for the environment and safe for students to use.”
The modular court is temperature resistant, cushioned for 30 per cent more shock absorption, self draining and suitable for a range of sports and uses.
“The students are very excited, and worked hard to get the turf up,” Ms Watkins said.
“It was a process the students wanted to be part of so they had put in the effort to get the reward at the end.”
The limit of students’ patience was wearing thin waiting for the line markings to dry before use, with a range of opportunities to play providing plenty of options for all students.
“The lines are not just basketball but multi-sport as well,” Ms Watkins said.
“It gives students more options and more games they can play, especially during winter when the oval is too wet.”
