New dad snares four
JUST days after the birth of his first child, all-rounder Fraser Lucas snared a match-winning four wickets for Bookaar last weekend.
Lucas and partner Jess Cameron welcomed baby Archie into the world on Tuesday, October 15 and just four days later Lucas was delivering some of his best bowling.
While baby Archie made a premature arrival, his doting dad was anything but off-schedule, causing havoc for Heytesbury’s batting line-up, finishing the day with the impressive figures of 4/21.
South West Cricket’s opening round of the 2024/25 season will be a memorable one for Lucas, who also contributed 12 runs to the board in his side’s narrow four-run victory.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Pelicans reached 10/158 in the 49th over.
Captain Lachlan Green top scored with 36 off 41 deliveries which included two sixes and three boundaries.
He was well supported on the board by Charlie Lucas with an unbeaten 29, opener Simon Baker on 26 and Tim Fitzgerald with 19 among the top scorers.
In reply, Storm got off to a slow start with openers Josh Dunne (1) and Thomas Hunt (3) dismissed early before Henry Stevens took to the crease.
Lucas’ accuracy down the pitch put an end to Stevens’ innings, dismissed for 28 from 61 balls.
His form also proved pivotal for the Pelicans’ when he ended the innings of a middle order bastman (no name recorded), dismissed for a threatening 77 runs.
Storm’s remaining line-up worked hard to lift the run rate but fell four runs short of victory in the final over.
