New principal welcomed
A NEW principal has been welcomed into the Camperdown College community.

A NEW principal has been welcomed into the Camperdown College community.
Xavier Davis, a father of two boys, has recently been given the role as principal after pervious principal Cherie Kilpatrick left in February this year.
Mr Davis has previously taught at Kew Primary School in Melbourne’s inner east, Camberwell Grammer School, and London, spending four years at each place before returning to the regions.
Having grown up in Leongatha, Gippsland, Mr Davis took a role as assistant principal at Colac Secondary School in 2016 after a desire to return to a rural lifestyle.
As principal of Camperdown College, Mr Davis spends his mornings at the junior campus on Brooke Street before going to the senior campus on Wilson Street in the afternoons.
Mr Davis said the school has a friendly, welcoming nature, with parents engaged with their children’s education.
“There are many times in the playground at the Junior Campus where I’ve been able to have chats with the families and School Council members and students,” he said.
“I’d say I’ve been welcomed so far, for sure; I think that it’s like every other person that’s involved in Camperdown College finds that it’s a welcoming and friendly environment to work in and also to go to school in.”
When asked what his favourite part of Camperdown College is, Mr Davis said he has a few things he loves about the school.
“A few of them would be the high quality and dedicated staff, and the ways that they work together,” he said.
“They have a very much team-based approach to their education and curriculum development.
“I love the way students are actively engaged with the adults; at break-times in the corridor, students are always wanting to connect and say hi and chat.
“I’ve loved the strong parents and friends engagement with the school; some schools have a real disconnect between parents and the education, but at Camperdown College you can instantly see how engaged the families are with their children’s education.”
Mr Davis said he hopes to bring in his knowledge from Prep to Year 12 into his new role.
“I’ve been in five schools of all different age groups; many years in primary schools, and the best part of a decade in a secondary school,” he said.
